Mattia Bonavolontà

I have a deep technical knowledge of production processes focused on new technologies and craftsmanship. Concept development, system design, and project design are part of my top skills.

Before moving to Thailand, I worked as DEO for Holey, a medical Startup based in Rome. There I led the design of an innovative 3d scanner device for medical purposes, putting into practice my knowledge of rapid prototyping and high-performance materials. Then in 2018, I moved to the kingdom to pursue a research project (Born in Thailand) on design and crafts, sponsored by European Union funds for youth.

In that project, I have focused on integrating my skills with the world of craft heritage and handmade products. I actively applied the design method within the basics of the sustainable and circular economy to the craft product and artisan community.

I’m living in the northern province of Sukhothai and keep working on growing and reinforcing the crafts network once started at the “Born in Thailand” project through the Thai Puan Creative Hub. The first Hub for creatives and artisans in Thailand. As Hub coordinator, I persecute our mission of offering R&D service to companies and artisans and developing new projects to preserve and promote the craft heritage with educational proposals, workshops, and lectures.

During this interval, I have had the opportunity to design and collaborate with different companies and institutions, such as DITP, DASTA, TAT, Naresuan University, and Central Phitsanulok. Each collaboration allowed me to expand my horizons as a designer and helped the Creative Hub to grow. For this reason, I’m constantly seeking new opportunities and partnerships.
