ITALIAN SHOWCASE | MovieMov

Italian comedy managed to bring young audience into cinemas and it overcame American films at the box office. For this reason we chose Manuale d’Amore 3 – The Ages of Love by Giovanni Veronesi, a funny and feel good comedy shot in Tuscany and Rome. Besides many famous Italian actors in its cast, one of the episodes stars Monica Bellucci and Robert De Niro. For the same reason the following movie will be Mine Vaganti – Loose Cannons, by Ferzan Ozpetek. The director participated to the Bangkok Film Festival in 2004 with La finestra di fronte. Mine Vaganti is the story of a classic Italian family, upset by the sudden discovery that the youngest son is gay. Riccardo Scamarcio is in the cast, and he will also participate to Cannes Film Festival. We also chose two Italian movies already presented at the past edition of International Rome Film Festival. One is Una vita tranquilla – A Quiet Life by Claudio Cupellini, nominated for several David di Donatello awards. The other one is La scuola è finita, by Valerio Jalongo, an outline about Italian school today. La doppia ora – The Double Hour by Giuseppe Capotondi is a noir while Dieci inverni – Ten Winters, Valerio Mieli’s debut, is a bittersweet sentimental comedy with Michele Riondino and Isabella Ragonese. Io sono l’amore – I Am Love by Luca Guadagnino with Alba Rohrwacher and the outstanding Tilda Swinton will be close the Festival on 12th June. The director and Antonella Cannarozzi (Oscar® Nominee for Best Costume Design) will attend the official screening. There will also be a special screening of the film Valzer – The Waltz by Salvatore Maira. It has been presented in Venice, Giornate degli Autori/Venice Days. The film stars Maurizio Micheli and Valeria Solarino and it has been shot in one 90’ long take. The jury that will judge the movies from the Showcase is made up of three members: Thai Director Ekachai Uekrongtham, Cinema Professor at Chulalongkorn University, Elio De Carolis and Chalida Uabumrungjit, one of the representatives of Thai Film Archive. On June 12th they will award with a MOVIEMOV plate the film that best represents Italy abroad.
