Project SILK Seminar- Strengthening EU-Thai Fight Against Counterfeiting

This seminar presents the results of Project SILK-Strengthening EU-Thai fight against counterfeiting and focuses on the strategies and practices that both public institutions and private organisations should implement in order to fight back against IPRs violations.
The seminar develops a comparative analysis of the situation in both the European Union and Thailand and concentrates on common criminological and legal issues.
The interventions programmed will contribute to give an accurate overview of the initiatives existing in both regions, in order to promote exchange of information and cooperation.
It is addressed to representatives from public authorities, private organisations, business associations and business intermediary organisations, practitioners and experts.
The first day will be about understanding the threats and risks of IPRs infringements
in Europe and Asia region.
The second day will focus on building capacity and raising awareness

SILK Project Description:
The overall objective of the project is to allow Thai public authorities, law enforcement agencies, business associations, civil society and all eligible actors, to benefit from know-how, experience and practices developed against counterfeiting and IPR infringements at European level. In specific, the project will develop innovative knowledge and organize training in order to contribute to further legal and economic reforms, and improve public-private initiatives against counterfeiting and piracy. The aim is to integrate Thailand into the world economy and to increase EU-Thai cooperation and economic relationship.
The specific objectives are as follows:
- To develop knowledge, to share information and to transfer know-how and experiences between EU and Thailand about the prevention and fight against counterfeiting and IPR infringements
- To build and enhance capacity of Thai public and private actors in fighting and preventing IPR infringements by means of training initiatives
- To raise awareness about the initiatives developed by public and private actors at both Thai and EU level.
Target group(s)
Public officials, judges, lawyers, law enforcement agents, customs, representatives of the private sectors, business associations and chambers of commerce.
Estimated results
To share knowledge and expertise in fighting counterfeiting between EU and Thailand; to develop cooperation and to establish an EU-Thai network of public and private actors; to contribute to promote Thai reforms and legitimate economy.
