“ALCISA COLD PLATE CHALLENGE, CHEFS CONTEST FOR THE BEST ANTIPASTO”

On the 29th of June, a cooking contest for the best Italian antipasto took place between seven Italian chefs from seven different Italian restaurants in town.
The event that took place at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit closed the thriving program of initiatives of this year’s Italian festival in Bangkok.

The antipasto is a milestone in the traditions of Italian cuisine. It is the entrée, which processed the so-called primo piatto. It can be made of a wide array of foods, most of the time it is made of cold dishes, in small portions, which rouse our appetite and prepare our palates for the following courses of the meal. The Italian antipasto should be mouthwatering, appealing and creative.

The event “ALCISA, COLD PLATE CHALLENGE, CHEFS CONTEST FOR THE BEST ANTIPASTO” was promoted by the mother company of Bologna, Alcisa, together with the Thai importer, Eurofood. During the event, Parma ham and the art of cutting by hand was demonstrated by the maestro of carving, which came specifically from Italy. Salami Alcisa was also presented and tasted; the famous salami cacciatorinomortadella and coppa Langhirano, were showcased as well.

The chefs that demonstrated the most creativity, the finest decorations and inspiring taste in the preparation of the antipasto won the prizes.

The first prize was won by the plate “The Mosaic of Cold Cut” of the restaurant “Fuzio Restaurant”. The second prize was given to  the antipasto, “Combination of Cold Cuts and Home Made Condiments” of the Spasso Restaurant (Erawan Gran Hyatt) and the third place went to “Rossini Cold Plate”
The food tasting was organized by the Italian Trade Commission of Bangkok and it was the sturdy framework of the event. Hotel representatives, F&Bs, journalist and critics of the sector, the diplomatic attaché, the VIPs and the Italian and international community all had the chance to enjoy the Alcisa products while sipping Prosecco e Dolcetto d’Alba of Batasiolo. The Ambassador of Italy Mr Ignazio Di Pace presided the event.
