Message from the Ambassador Ignazio Di Pace on the occasion of the Italian national Day ( June 2nd 2007)
On the occasion of the Italian National Day I wish to extend my best wishes to Thailand and the Thai people. Thailand is presently living through a difficult moment in its history. We do not have suggestions on the current political situation – it is up to Thai people to decide about their future - but we are looking forward to an ever growing relationship between the European Union and Italy on one side and a prosperous and democratic Thailand on the other. We therefore follow with sympathy the ongoing efforts to restore the democratic rule but at the same time we will not refrain from expressing friendly concern when we feel that constructive criticism is useful for the sake of a meaningful and lasting friendship. I welcome the positive trend of our bilateral commercial and cultural relations, in spite of the political uncertainties. This is very important, today more than ever, because the relathionships between our civil societies mantain the momentum of our bilateral relations. People to people contacts are a powerful incentive to overcome political difficulties. The Embassy of Italy gives full support to this trend. In this spirit, together with the Italian Trade Commission, other Italian and Thai institutions and private companies, we have organized “Bella Italia 2007”. As in previous years, the different events of the 2007 Italian Festival reflect many different aspects of the Italian way of life, apparently so popular in Thailand. For this year’s festival, we wish to reaffirm the friendship between Thai and Italian people and the importance of this friendship for our overall bilateral relations. I believe the various events of our Festival will be received by the Thai public in the same friendly spirit. I would also like to encourage the organization of more events representing Thai culture and lifestyle in Italy.
